Foley's roots go back to the early 1940s. Founder Paul J. Foley worked in the Treasury Department of Caterpillar® Tractor Company in Peoria, Illinois until he had the opportunity to assist in a newly formed dealership in Wichita. A short time later, he was asked to join the firm and the Karcher-Wolter-Foley Company was formed. In 1942, Mr. Foley purchased his partners' interests in the dealership and the company became known as Foley Tractor Company.

With the expanding oil field and agriculture opportunities of the 1940s, new stores were built in Pratt and Great Bend. The Dodge City and Salina stores opened in 1958 when Foley Tractor acquired Roberts Tractor Company in western Kansas and part of Oehlert Tractor Company in central Kansas.

During the next 20 years, significant changes came about for both Foley Tractor and Caterpillar. Caterpillar introduced industrial and truck engines and Foley Tractor responded by expanding with an engine division and industrial equipment division. In 1973, Paul (Skip) J. Foley II became President of the company.

Caterpillar and Foley continued leading the industry with several new product introductions in the '80s and '90s. These products included backhoe loaders, building construction products, agricultural tractors and combines and compact construction equipment.

Today, a third generation of the Foley family is involved with the business. Ann Foley Konecny is Board Chair and CEO of Foley Equipment Company.

For more than 60 years, Foley Equipment has earned a reputation for dedication, quality and value. To more accurately reflect what it does, the company changed its name from Foley Tractor Company to Foley Equipment Company in 1998.

Serving 49 counties in Kansas, Foley Equipment Company is headquartered in Wichita with full-service facilities in Dodge City, Salina and Great Bend. A truck service center opened in Wichita in 2001 and a fifth store in Liberal opened in 2003. Foley Supply The Cat Rental Store began operation in Wichita in 1999 and since then has expanded to Salina and Great Bend as well.
